You Are the Essence of a Summer Day

You are the essence of a summer day
While wintry winds are clawing at our walls
And all is glacial save where we now lay
Tight intertwined, deep burrowed under all

The blankets we possess.  The arctic air
Has frozen time – look how the hands upon
Our clock have stopped.  They’re saying that we are
To stay right here – protecting summer from

The deadly elements.  With our embrace
We’ll make the dismal season understand
It cannot spread its cold in summer’s place
And that should chase away intemperate winds.

But if results not be as we intend,
We’ll profit, still, from efforts toward that end.
